Pelvic inflammatory disease info
Many women don’t know they have PID because they don’t have any symptoms. For women who have them, symptoms can range from mild to severe.
Although the pelvic inflammatory disease infection itself may be cured, effects of the infection may be permanent. This makes early identification by someone who can prescribe appropriate curative treatment very important in the prevention of damage to the reproductive system.
Other organisms that have been implicated in the pathogenesis of PID include Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Gardnerella vaginalis, Haemophilus influenzae, and anaerobes, such as Peptococcus and Bacteroides species.
PID can lead to serious consequences including infertility, ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy in the fallopian tube or elsewhere outside of the womb), abscess formation, and chronic pelvic pain.
